Religion In 5th grade students will learn more about the Catholic faith and identity in a variety of ways.
Students will:
learn about all 7 Sacraments
learn about all the parts of Mass
participating in weekly mass, adoration, and spiritual retreats
go to confession two times a year
read and analyze Bible scripture readings
learn the lives of the saints
learn different prayers
Reading/English/Spelling/Vocabulary Students will continue to develop literacy skills.
Students will:
listen to aloud reading
participate in reading groups
have independent reading and writing time
compose short narratives and essays
practice making connections, inferences, questions, predictions, and images while reading
peer edit and read together in small group stations
work on vocabulary and spelling development
understand sentence structure by means of diagraming
creating purposeful book reports showing knowledge and understanding of a specific book as well as genres
complete novel studies
Mathematics Students will extend their knowledge in math by continuing to develop their sense of number relationships in order to apply their skills to solve problems. They will use the text, manipulatives, technology and everyday situations.
Students will:

Students will:
learn about different explorers and reasons for exploration
identify the 13 colonies and their regions, as well as learning about why each colony was colonized
learn about the American Revolution and the events leading up to the war
study the Great Depression and its effect on our country
learn all 50 states and capitals
identify our country's regions and geography by using map skills
