St. Thomas More Catholic School began as a Catholic elementary school with Grades 1-5 on September 19, 1960. One new grade was added each year thereafter until the school reached up to eighth grade. Groundbreaking for the new wing which includes a preschool, kindergarten, library, computer lab, art room, and faculty lounge took place on April 13, 1992. St. Thomas More Catholic School is recognized by the Diocese of Rockford and the State of Illinois as a fully accredited educational institution. The curriculum for students in K-8 is arranged to contribute to the total development of the child spiritually, academically, socially, and physically with technology to enhance the teaching and learning for all ages.
The school shares the educational mission of the Church based upon the Gospel message. A cooperative relationship exists among the school, church, family, and community members in a caring environment founded upon mutual respect. St. Thomas More Catholic School is dedicated to maintaining educational excellence and organized to foster the growth of the individual.

The mission of St. Thomas More Catholic School is to provide an academic environment which is centered around Christ, and designed to promote the total development of the child, both intellectually as well as spiritually. This is accomplished by the St, Thomas More school and parish community empowering each child with a Catholic curriculum which installs faith, promotes academic excellence, foster creativity, welcomes change and diversity, and integrates technology.

Philosophy
St. Thomas More Catholic School, an extension of the St. Thomas More Catholic Church and is part of the Diocese of Rockford. As part of the Catholic community, the school is fully commited to assisting parents in fulfilling the responsibility of nurturing the continued spiritual and academic growth of their children.
